Currently the most recent "known-good" source is available in a convenient tarball from http://www.fossil-scm.org/download.html. Unfortunately the URL for that source file changes every time a new version goes up. This interferes with possibilities like automating package builds for Linux distros (RPMs, DEBs, TGZs, LZMs, etc.). I propose a persistent link with a known, unvarying URL -- "http://www.fossil-scm.org/download/fossil-src-latest-good.tar.gz" -- which is just an alias pointing to whatever the latest updated build's name happens to be. (As of this ticket it would be an alias for "http://www.fossil-scm.org/download/fossil-src-20090915120431.tar.gz".) This would permit the proper creation of slackbuild scripts, for example (a prerequisite for fossil being included in Slackware) among others.
